The International Web Festival Calendar has a gala closing in Brazil!
Four days of an effervescent meeting between web series creators from all around the world, more than 200 productions exhibited for free to the public, lectures, workshops, trophies, cash awards, red carpet and the final of WSWC 2016, the Web Series World Cup 2016. These are some of the attractions of Rio WebFest 2016 (RWF), that will be held between 1-4 of December in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Forty custom trophies, named Zé, will be offered. Also, the event will distribute cash awards in four categories: Best Brazilian Series, Best International Series, Best Vlogger and Popular Vote. Ten projects will be selected to compete for the Super Project (the winner idea will be co-produced along with French entertainment company Dark Light). In addition to these prizes, nominees productions will compete for 9 Silver Tickets (direct official selection for other web festivals) and one Brazilian web series will win the Golden Ticket (direct official selection for the Marseille Web Fest, with air ticket and accommodation paid).
“Jean Michel Albert, director of the Marseille Web Fest, will come to Rio to meet the web series and choose one of them for the 2017 edition of his festival. Historically, 70% of those selected for Marseille Web Fest, oldest and most important internet event in Europe, return to their countries with at least one distribution contract signed by a TV channel or digital distributor” – celebrates Leandro Silva, Rio WebFest founder and director.
“Our intention is to bring audiovisual producers again to Rio so that they can both get to know what we are creating here and share their videos with our audience” – explains Leandro Silva. “In 2016 the exchange will be even greater! I have no doubt that the festival will grow from year to year” – concludes Silva.
Like the web series, the web fests are a very recent phenomenon/idea and more than half of them started last year. RWF now has more than 20 festival partners in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia.
To make things more interesting, Rio WebFest 2016 will be the final stage of the WSWC 2016, Web Series World Cup 2016. This is a league between web series worldwide that are enrolled in web fests. Joël Bassaget, founder of this competition and blogger of the French newspaper Libération, will be at the festival to announce and deliver the trophy to the winning production.
